Amazing Extended Kitchen!

This home had some great features but had a small kitchen and an even smaller island.  The new owners had a vision for the perfect home to function better for their growing family!

The existing kitchen was open to the family room but was separated by a kitchen dinette table area. The formal dining room was walled off behind the kitchen with a large, low to floor bay window, and was unused valuable space. We took down that wall, removed the bay window and installed a new window that would match up with the original kitchen sink window.  We absorbed the old DR area, installed calm light gray maple shaker cabinets and moved the kitchen sink down to the new window area.  The refrigerator was now placed in a easy to get to functional location.  A new 36″ w range along with a decorative SS hood was located along the back wall; simple white multi-toned backsplash tile was installed along with a decorative inset bringing in a navy accent color.  The exterior wall now offers plenty of storage and functional counter space including a custom full height cabinet at the end of the counter for storing the home owners KitchenAid mixer.

Now we had the space to add a very large island with navy accent cabinetry, a new drawer microwave close to those yummy left-overs in the fridge adds more function along with all the the additional storage cabinets.  The custom attached built-on counter height table is large enough to seat the whole family truly making this kitchen the “Heart of the Home.”

Moving the refrigerator allowed room for two large built-in pantry cabinets each with 4 pull-out roll trays for tons of practical pantry storage. The old pantry closet was converted to a beverage center with navy accent cabinets matching the island, featuring center bubble glass doors; plus, adding the white subway backsplash tile, ties it all together.

New can lighting, under cab lights and swing arm lamps over the two windows create better task lighting throughout the space; all with dimmer switches for a great entertaining ambience.  A fresh new paint color was chosen to match the new tone of this grand kitchen.

The hardwood floors were refinished to a darker grey toned stain extending throughout the main level. We went beyond the kitchen and remodeled the family room and fireplace area to flow with the new kitchen and provide built in storage. A custom built coat and shoe cubby with a butcher block bench, stained to blend with the new floor color, was installed near the front door. We replaced the stair railing, balusters, added new carpet and continued up to the second level.
