Top 4 DIY Mistakes
By Jon Stahl, General Contractor
Do it yourself’ers tend to make these 4 very common mistakes.
We are here to help you avoid them.
1. THEY DON’T PLAN. Most folks end up making multiple trips to the home store, and taking far longer to complete a project because they fail to plan out all that needs to be done. Don’t fall into this time trap. Your family will thank you for getting the project done on schedule.
2. THEY DON’T TOOL UP. Most DIY’ers don’t own or have access to all of the tools needed to complete a home project. If you don’t have the right tools you may have to go to the rental center to get the correct ones. You may also need to search online videos on how to properly use some of these tools safely. The right tools will save you time and aggravation.
3. THEY COVER IT UP. Many people just hide the old, ugly, or worn out by covering it up. This is not what the professionals do. You need to remove the old and damaged and start anew. Hiding these old problems will only cost you more money later.
4. THEY DON’T KNOW WHEN TO QUIT. Leave the technical stuff to the pros. Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC should always be left to licensed professionals. Even general contractors rely on them. Don’t attempt to complete work that is above your knowledge base or skill set. This can be dangerous costly.
